Summary of Career

Jaime obtained his Commercial Engineer degree from the University of Santiago and has obtained following specializations:

  • Master in Business Administration (MBA-UC) from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
  • Master of Applied Finance from Universidad de los Andes.
  • Master of Business Taxation from Universidad de los Andes.
  • Diploma in Executive Coaching from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
  • Post degree in Corporate Finance from The Chase Manhattan Bank of Puerto Rico.

He has extensive experience with Financial, Commercial and International Business transactions on both domestic and international markets. Upon graduated as Commercial Engineer, he joined the Audit & Consulting company Langton Clarke (now Ernst & Young), performing as Auditor in companies of several industries, such as, forestry, pulp, fishing, insurance, banking, industrial, automotive and non-profit organizations.

After two years as Auditor, he joined The Chase Manhattan Bank (now JPMorgan Chase) where he performed a very successful career. He started as a Financial Analyst, later was promoted as customer relationship manager, responsible for the businesses with customers of various industries. Subsequently he was promoted to management positions, leading teams in the commercial areas as well as products and operations areas. At Chase he was selected to attend the Corporate Finance course at The Chase Manhattan Bank- Puerto Rico, a one year long MBA level course, including practical application to customers of Chase Puerto Rico. At The Chase Manhattan Bank he performed following management leading positions: Financial Analyst, Relationship Manager of local national and multinational companies, Financial Institutions Head, Foreign Trade Manager, Commercial Banking Manager and Foreign Investment Funds Manager, reaching a Vice President position.

After 10 years at Chase he joined BankBoston Chile (now Banco Itaú). In this bank Jaime played following management positions: Financial Institutions Head, Foreign Trade Manager, Foreign Investment Manager, Corporate Product Manager and Foreign Investment Funds Manager. Represented BankBoston Chile at a seminar in China about "How to Do Business and Investments in Latin America", aimed to Chinese businessmen and bankers in the cities of Beijing and Shanghai. The seminar was organized by BankBoston head office in the USA. Besides Chile, speakers from BankBoston Brazil, BankBoston Argentina and BankBoston Mexico also attended.

After BankBoston, Jaime joined American Express Bank, where he worked as Regional Manager of International Business for Chile, Peru, Argentina and Bolivia and as Banks and Financial Institutions Head, responsible for the businesses with banks, insurance companies, pension funds and stock brokers from Chile and Bolivia. He also led the Foreign Trade and foreign investments operations areas. In 2004 Jaime joined Bci Asesoría Financiera (a Banco Bci Financial Advisory Affiliate), actively participating in the structuring of a syndicated loan for US$150 million, the largest transaction amount structured up to that time by Bci Asesoría Financiera. This deal involved an extensive road show to banks in the New York City, USA. In addition he participated in financial advisories transaction that required debt restructuring and Companies valuation, among others. In 2005 Banco Bci promoted Jaime to become Commercial Foreign Trade Manager at Banco BCI (Gerente Comercial de Comercio Exterior), leading a team of 40 commercial executives. In this position he designed and implemented a very successful foreign trade commercial strategy for the bank achieving an average annual growth of 15% over five years. His responsibilities covered the development of the foreign trade businesses all over the country, attending all segment of clients, from small business to large corporate. Besides one of the greatest achievement of his team was getting during 2 consecutive years the best service quality evaluation according to surveys made to customers.

In 2010 he joined Scotiabank Chile as Manager of the Risk Analysis Area, leading a team of 23 Credit Analyst and 3 Team Leaders whose responsibility was to prepare credit lines proposals for all customer segments of the bank. Depending on the risk rating of the customer and the transaction amount, the credit proposals had to be sent to Scotiabank Canada for approval. In 2011 Scotiabank Chile promoted Jaime to lead new responsibilities as head of a recently created Commercial Banking Division named Middle Corporate Banking tending to attract customers with annual sales between US$ 25 million and US$ 150 million. It was a very challenging task that departed from zero, therefore he had to select and hire Financial Analysts and Relationship Managers. Besides, he designed and implemented a very successful commercial strategy aimed at attracting customers.

Since 2013 he also works as a professor at the Instituto de Estudios Bancarios Guillermo Subercaseaux, teaching in the area of Finance. This institute was created by banks to train people who can work for banks. He has also performed as professor of the Faculty of Management and Economy at the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, teaching in the areas of finance, business administration and economy to Commercial Engineer and Accountant careers.

Besides currently he also manages investments in the real estate, agricultural and financial investment fields.

Jaime has been member of the Foreign Trade Committee at AMCHAM (American Chamber of Commerce) and member of the Foreign Trade Committee at the Chilean banks association (Asociación de Bancos en Chile).
